Kin is a flamenco performance by AJ Simmons and Kelty McKerracher thatexplores the interseccion between queerness and flamenco.
The performance was part of the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival. 

What is Kin?

Kin is a queering of flamenco that recognizes the kinship between queerness and flamenco. The performance explores how “queer” is more than sexual orientation, but also a way of being and questioning what’s considered normative. 

About the performers 

Kelty McKerracher trained at Al Mozaico Flamenco, where she studied with Nieto and Lea. She also completed six months of foundational training in Grenada, Spain.

AJ Simmons has a background in Irish dance and trained with Karen Flamenco. She also studied privately with Oscar Nieto and Kasandra “La China” Lea of Al Mozaico Flamenco.
